The Auditor-General report on New Zealand's freshwater management

Mar, 2020

Te wai. Water. It’s important to New Zealanders. People expect the water from their taps to be clean and safe, wastewater and stormwater to not pollute the environment, and our rivers, lakes, and oceans to be healthy ecosystems that are safe to swim in and to gather kai moana.

The Auditor-General of New Zealand office looked at how well public organisations in local and central government are carrying out their water management responsibilities. Their conclusion is that a ‘more strategic and integrated approach to water management is needed’ and ‘the understanding of water resources needs to improve’.
